The Tree of Life

The Baobab is a most phenomenal tree and has properties like none other and with good reason; it is called The Tree of life.

Carbon dating shows that some trees are more than 2000 years old.
The baobab is also called the "upside down" tree as the upper branches protrude skyward and outward, giving the impression of a network of roots.

When mature, the tree becomes hollow within its huge trunk, allowing for shelter for both animals and humans on the African Savannah. The fruit of the baobab is rich in nutrients and a valuable source of food, having six times more vitamin C than an orange, twice the calcium of milk and anti-oxidants like iron and potassium. It can also store 100 litres of water, which can be tapped off in the dry season. Little wonder that this tree, due to its unique appearance , has inspired more works of art than any other tree !

The fruit has a hard woody shell, inside of which are a number of seeds, which are cold pressed releasing a rich golden oil with a luscious aroma.

This remarkable oil can relieve pain from burns, regenerate new skin tissue, moisten the epidermis and is valuable in treating eczema and psoriasis, without clogging the pores.

Future developments will include nutrients from the baobab fruit that can be ingested in the form of smoothies and cereal bars. It is therefore little wonder that this " Tree of Life" is a wonder of nature!
