Detox

After a decadent Christmas and New Year passed, everyone is looking to detox one way or another!

What is detox?

Detoxification is the process of removing toxins from the body. This process involves many different elements such as herbal detoxification, change of diet and other regimes. It requires some dedication and effort ~ below are just some of the many ways in which you can start to detoxify your body!

Water

Increasing your water consumption is a fantastic and effective way! Water is well renowned to dilute and flush out toxins in your kidneys and liver. For flavour, add a slice of lemon or lime.

Diet

Fresh is always best and fruit is the perfect detox food. Red berries such as cherries, cranberries & strawberries are packed with healing compounds that boost enzymatic activity, wash away harmful bacteria and clean out carcinogenic toxins.

Other tips include ~

Avoid foods that are high in saturated fat and salt. Detoxing is as simple as eating clean, whole, unprocessed foods. Regularly incorporating healthy foods is integral where you can institute a continual and lasting detoxification process within your system.

Help your liver detoxify your body more efficiently by ridding your diet of any foods containing artificial ingredients such as artificial flavourings, food colourings, preservatives and chemicals. Also try and limit medications such as pain relievers since they can have a negative effect on the liver.

Cut our sugar. Cutting out all forms of processed refined sugar will help you better avoid the foods that slow your system from naturally cleansing itself each day.

Limit caffeine if possible. Caffeine results in excess stimulation of the adrenal glands, which inevitably robs the body of nutrients.

Massage & exfoliation

Physiologically, massage & exfoliation brings increased blood flow to the area being treated, which brings with it nutrients, oxygen and chi to the cellular system. It takes away waste products of metabolism, toxins and CO2 allowing the body to detoxify. Massage & exfoliation also helps the lymphatic system to flow and drain into the circulatory system, which helps the natural immunity of the body.
