What does Heritage Day mean to us ~

The 24th of September was originally known as "'' in honour of the great Zulu warrior! Heritage means "you come from and belong to a place, where you were born".

This day celebrates the beautiful culture, customs, traditions, history and languages of the various peoples of South Africa.

No wonder that Nelson Mandela coined the phrase "The Rainbow Nation" as after Apartheid he felt that the people had the power to help build a new nation.

Heritage Day, is also termed "National Braai Day" as this cooking tradition, brings people together in the true South African sense!

Other than the culinary experience, we have much to remind us of our heritage like national monuments and statues, sites like game reserves, Robben Island and "The Cradle of Mankind" of which we can be very proud.

So, if we are proudly South African we should try to show national pride and visit one of these sites, or on a more leisurely note part-take in the "good food and wine show" in Gauteng or the annual "white mountain music festival" in KZN!

One can also check for various events being staged closer to home, where entertainment is offered.
